Batteries for 6lt diesel

I had an anoying event yesterday in the lock at Chichester Marina when neither of my engines would start.

The engines were warm, but would not turn over to start.

I have 2x Hino Wo6-DTI 6lt diesels and each has a seperate Varta 644/646 480CCA engine starter battery.

Do I need batteries with a higher CCA, and if so how large?

Link the two batteries together for starting, or get two more and add to the sysytem. We have CCA 675X2 at 12 volts, on our fords.

I have a 750 CCA batt for a 6ltr Yanmar & so would have thought 480 is a bit low really.
