I want to fit a bathing platform to the transom of my boat. Has anyone any advice on who might supply such a thing? I have seen the Plastimo one advertised, but I am a little concerned about it's strength - It will have to stand up to a 17 stone yachtie and two teenage boys. I'd be very interested to hear any comments.

Cheers! Neil

A friend had one added to his 40' launch which was custom made to suit and though it turned out well it was a fairly major construction, with a sort of box section underneath that followed the lines of the hull and incorporated a live bait well to give sufficient strength.
You have correctly identified the potential weakness of one that is stuck on as an afterthought.

Any competent boat builder could construct one to suit if you are prepared to pay for it.
I dont know what size your boat is so hope this is of some relevance as a smaller boat could possibly have a simpler construction. [ I have seen some that are sort of hinged on with stainless chain to the outer edge. They look awful in my opinion.]

Good luck

If you have a retroussé transom ie like many modern sailing boats, another alternative is to cut a hole in the transom and mould in a step. I had this done (professionally) on mine. They had a standard mould for this. The advantage is that you don't change the overall length and it looks good.

Re: your boat /profile

it would help to show this for a more specific answer but in general -
(1) custom built is not necessarily more expensive
(2) most are overengineered for the use they get and
(3) even a modest tender on snap davits in any sea will exert more strain that your 17 stone unless you start jumping up and down on it bigtime.
If yo have a powerboat then the transom should enable you to fit an aftermarket / custom job pretty strongly
