Anchored up in the bay of Cannes on Sunday to watch the fireworks in the evening. By early afternoon the crowds were massing
By the time it got dark there were two more boats anchored between me and the Sunseeker on the left, and must have been several hundred boats of every type and size there.
Photos never capture how good the fireworks are, but they were pretty amazing
When they finished it turned into a big party with all the boats sounding their horns, blasting out music, and loads of people setting off parachute flares which landed still burning on the boats around them!
Next day we anchored off the monastery built into the rocks on one of the islands, and spent most of the day swimming in the warm, crystal clear water
It was a bit of a lumpy anchorage with lots of boats passing by, but worth it when it all calmed down in the evening, and we lay out on the bow sunpad with a bottle of plonk with the monastery all lit up. I tried to get a bit arty and get the reflection on the side of the boat, but couldn't hold the camera steady enough. Still you get the idea.
So far South of France boating is fab, but I guess we're still in the honeymoon period. To date the positives are constant sun, usually light winds, warm clear water, great food, and have got to know more people around us in 3 weeks than we did in 3 yrs at Lymington. Down sides are lumpy anchorages due to wakes from all the big boats, problems getting visitor moorings and the odd jellyfish or a hundred.
