Anchored up in the bay of Cannes on Sunday to watch the fireworks in the evening. By early afternoon the crowds were massing

IMGP0191-web.jpg

By the time it got dark there were two more boats anchored between me and the Sunseeker on the left, and must have been several hundred boats of every type and size there.

Photos never capture how good the fireworks are, but they were pretty amazing

IMGP0211-web.jpg

IMGP0202-web.jpg

When they finished it turned into a big party with all the boats sounding their horns, blasting out music, and loads of people setting off parachute flares which landed still burning on the boats around them!

Next day we anchored off the monastery built into the rocks on one of the islands, and spent most of the day swimming in the warm, crystal clear water

IMGP0215-web.jpg

It was a bit of a lumpy anchorage with lots of boats passing by, but worth it when it all calmed down in the evening, and we lay out on the bow sunpad with a bottle of plonk with the monastery all lit up. I tried to get a bit arty and get the reflection on the side of the boat, but couldn't hold the camera steady enough. Still you get the idea.

So far South of France boating is fab, but I guess we're still in the honeymoon period. To date the positives are constant sun, usually light winds, warm clear water, great food, and have got to know more people around us in 3 weeks than we did in 3 yrs at Lymington. Down sides are lumpy anchorages due to wakes from all the big boats, problems getting visitor moorings and the odd jellyfish or a hundred.

Nice pix Nick, glad you are enjoying it. We got back to Antibes from Corsica later than planned - Sunday evening, so I didn't drop by. Did a few boat jobs on Monday and came back to London Monday night. Off back tomorrow night (thursday) for couple of days. Have loads of Corsica pix, will post soon.

The jellyfish seem to be out in about but they're never everywhere. So if you find a load in one place it is probly ok somewhere else. As you're probably realising, the wakes of passing boats are a nuisance in some places but doesn't happen in others. The place where your photo is taken is by the main shallow water channel for boats going to/from Cannes, so is lumpy. St Trop is lumpy too. Between the lerins islands is better, and deep inside Villefranche is wake-free

I'll do a post on the corsica trip when I find some time. Meanwhile here is the sea state for the 155mile Antibes-Elba crossing :)

Blimey, half the forum seems to have been SoF last weekend /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. Glad you are enjoying the SoF Nick, tis a bit different than Solent boating for sure. For me I can get to Nice from the IOM quicker than to the solent now that it looks like Flybe will stop direct flights from IOM to Eastleigh so looks like will be doing more down SoF, spesh with this pants weather we have had this summer. Never missed a day on the water from LaNap so far due to weather /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

We had a bit of a jolly around LaNap and up towards Antibes
Thanks to JFM for the offer of his berth at Antibes for a night, unfortunately we were only around there for a few hours but would have loved to stay the night.

Anyway this was leaving LaRague after a few bits been fettled

Stuartaircon07.07013.jpg

And a couple of nice ickle run abouts that were having lunch

Stuartaircon07.07020.jpg

Stuartaircon07.07021.jpg

Then we thought we spotted Deleted User but alas it was a 480 so looked a plonker waving

Stuartaircon07.07042.jpg

Sunseeker were busy guys at LaRague on the Thursday Pdi'ing a new 47

Stuartaircon07.07006.jpg

and a this superhawk arrived from the factory

Stuartaircon07.07004.jpg

And this Predator was launched earlier, twas Isle of Man registered /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stuartaircon07.07041.jpg

And even Pershing had a pdi launch on a 50

Stuartaircon07.07005.jpg

Looks like the Canadians are getting in on the IPS act as this rocked up and plonked on the hard.

Stuartaircon07.07002.jpg

Even Princess had a delivery

Stuartaircon07.07007.jpg

Oh yeah and this was part of the fire the week before that burnt a load of trees at LaRague and covered everying in a yucky soot /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif took ages to clean off the decks.

The sunseeker being pdi-ed in your 5th pic, called Raptor, is my new neighbour in Antibes. Just been bought by a nice Irish couple, first boat. They were being taught how to drive/park it by sunseeker on Monday/Tuesday (which I hope goes well with him being my neighbour!)

Nick it is parked in the berth you have been looking it. They say capitainerie has told them they have the berth till end of August but they have to vacate 1 September, in case it is relevant to your goings on...

Good to hear the travelling works well for you Nautical. So, you down again this weekend? :) I'm going tonight

Won't make this weekend, customers getting in the way of our boating time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif you'd think they would be more considerate and not want handovers on a Sat /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nice 47 they have got, it still amazes me that newcomers jump straight in at that size, I just a couple of weeks ago sold a 56 triple to an English couple and that is also their first boat, mind you they are being sensible and doing a day skippers in the UK before delivery but I will still have to spend a few days with them SoF getting to grips with her, oh dear looks like another few hard days at the office then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There've been loads of jellies in Majorca on our recent trips. My theory is that they get blown into bays by wind driven currents because I've noticed that you don't see them in bays where the wind has been blowing offshore for a day or 2. Are'nt the SoF authorities planning to do something about them this year at least in bays with popular beaches?
Looks like you had a rough crossing to Elba. Looking forward to your report as it's an area we would like to explore

Unfortunately not me but boat looks exactly the same even down to the same bimini top. Ferretti changed name from 46 to 480 a couple of years into it's model life. Your photos bring back pleasant memories of our season in LaNap and La Rague is v familiar too as our boat was lifted there 3 times in one season for cleaning

Blimey, sounds like a SoF forum bash is in order. We go back down Thurs 26th for a month although i'm flying back to Brum or elsewhere a few times in between as work demands.

Jfm, that sounds promising if your neighbour has been told to bu@@er off by 1 Sep, as the berth owner has written to the Capitainerie asking that I be allowed to use it from then on.

Nice pics - we have had strong winds in and around Majorca last month or so - apart from odd days. Has it been the same in SOF? Those pics look like you are on a lake!

We had three bouts of strong wind in the first week there, two mistrals and one of the other's I can't remember the name of, but its been pretty settled since then with light winds and calm seas.

Superb photos, nice to see the different world in which some people are lucky enough to live in. I'm stunned at the number of large new boats sat there being delivered, the envy is strong considering they're some of my dream boats !

SoF is one of my all time favourite places after doing a driving holiday for 2 weeks down there a few years back in our sports cars and creating a stir round Monaco, I'm seriously considering towing our little 22 footer down there for a holiday next year (mind you if this weather keeps up I'll be towing it down there a damn sight sooner /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif ). I'm sure it'll fit in well amongst them all /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I havent posted many of my pics yet, but given you cannot get a berth for love nor money in the Balearics (well maybe a lot of money!) I saw these three ships delivering new boats in just one day - where do they put them all.....

Just brings it home that we are a small (ish) boaty community here in the UK, nothing wrong with that of course but it does give a distorted view of what the boaty world certainly from a commercial perspective is like outside of the UK. while our builders do a superb job we are still small compared to the combined might of the Italians particularly. It would be nice if our shows reflected a more global or certainly euro perspective and attracted the major players in the industry, ok some will say we haven't the weather or the potential but then the the second largest show in the world is in Dusseldorf in the middle of winter and you hardly see many Pershings or Ferrettis plying up and down the Rhine yet they are there with a huge presence also as a result there are lots of world premiers from all over the globe.

Why can't we do the same or certainly open up a little that attracts the crowds they way the euro shows do. Its all a little too cosy and as a result poor UK Mr boaty hardly gets to get a glimpse of the bigger picture unless he goes outside the Uk.

Sorry I am off on one, ooops!
