Hello all....just bought my first boat in the form of an open 15ft fishing boat which came with a 15hp Selva Naxos o/b (which isn't running perfectly). I'm brand new to all this and wondered if anyone knew of a good 1 day course that covers basic outboard maintenance.

I'm in the Essex / London area.

Thanks for any advice in advance.....

a good place to start is remove the carb and upend of fuel catching all to see if there is any crud.strip it down carefully in a clean environment so to catch any flying springs etc.the floatbowl should be pristine and jets removed and soaked.some limelight descaler is good for starters.check any inline filters too and give it some new plugs.new fuel too no old stuff and see if it runs any better.you maybe able to find a pdf manual on line and if not most carbs are basically the same.

See - you're already way beyond my capability - where's the carb? What does it look like? Floatbowl?

I know exactly where rossy1977 is coming from - I'd love one of those courses too... got to be an opening there for someone! :)

I'm afraid I don't know of any courses (though I agree there should be some!) and we're not supposed to advertise on the forum, but here's a hint:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adlard-Coles-Book-Outboard-Motors/dp/0713675756 (Only a three star review, but do see what it says!)

Stormforce Coaching (http://www.stormforce.biz/) of Kemps Quay Marina Southampton are running one of the BSAC courses on Outboard Maintenance on the 10th July..

I have nothing to do with them but thought I'd mention it here as others may have an interest.... I'm registered, £96 for the day......

Thanks for the reference. We set this date up as a response to this thread, look forward to meeting you on the day.
