Hi guys and gals,
Getting more people requesting my assistance skippering here in the med and I need to get some basic equipment together, not all the spares for the inboard but basic stuff like: knife, hat, suncream, life jacket.....

Anybody got a list or can recommend the indispensibe?

Thanks in advance

Will

How about:

HH VHF
Charts
HH GPS
Knife
Small Flare Kit

With your normal Personal gear - including Lifejacket, suncream etc etc - bits you'd take with you even if you were off on a friends boat.

I'm sure there is more!

agree + almanac + hand bearing compass

Spare spectacles (If you wear glasses)
Sun Glasses
Ginger biscuits
Paracetamols (Or equivalent)
Cup of soups

All depends on taste doesn't it
Cock a leekie, Mulligatawney, Pea and Ham, Celery and tomato all in one cup would be cup of soups.

I think that particular mixture would probably test the keenest of digestive systems so someone of a more delicate nature may just like a cup of Oxtail each day - in which case that would be cups of soup
q.e.d.

Bloody hell, I'd need a ginger biscuit after that! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Spare batteries for HH GPS & VHF
More ginger biscuits
More Cup O Soups!!!!!!!!!!! Especially Oxtail
Hmmmm

I look at from the point of view of (in order of priority) :

Survival - knowing where I am and can I summom help / assist if it goes T's up

Comfort - sleeping and clothes suitable for the job, along with personal needs of med's etc.

Stomach - beer / food / snacks that I enjoy and can offer others etc.

Others - depends on boat and people to be with ... and whether it's a party / delivery / just skipper etc.

Once I sort the above into a plan - I then start to look at individual items and how much room I have / priority of what gear etc to satisfy each section. But I always take my HH VHF / charger, HH GPS and lead, my preferred beer and Pork Pies / Cornish Pasties ..... / sleeping bag and oilies.

Would I put my trust in someone who had to ask what kit to put in a 'skippers' bag?

But here is a slightly unusual one for you - A 12v extension lead with battery croc clips on one end and 2 cigarette lighter sockets on the other. Then, coupled with a 12v AA recharger, you can recharge batteries for various h/h's or run them off the boat battery.
