Hi, Those Barton "rubber" Winchers -- do they really work as self tailers?

yes, just fill the drum with turns. the top slot is only there as a rope tidy, it is nothing to do with "making off". its the friction on the drum & the turns jammed up under the rubber that grip

I fitted mine (not easy, unless lucky!!) some years ago and have absolutely no qualms. They work.
However, I'm about to re-chrome my winches and removing the Winchers will probably destroy them. Time will tell.

You can take them off without damage, use a suitable sized blunt lever and some washing up liquid to ease them off.

Some while ago I was thinking of getting some, but then the local chandlery had a box of them by the door with a note
"free winchers, but only if you don't come back and ask questions or complain!"
That rather put me off so I didn't bother.

I bet that chandlery aren't on Barton's prized customer list!!
