I have one of those electronic weather stations (found it in a skip). It has a sort of graphic display of the pressure over the last 24 hours, but only +/- 8mB from the current pressure. I looked at it at about noon today, and realised that the graph had been running along the bottom for most of the last 24 hours, and had only started to show a rise in the last 5 hours or so. The device has a 'History' function, which allows you to recall the pressure hour by hour over the last 24 hours, so just out of interest I did so and plotted the figures to give a quasi barograph record. I live near Watford, and the pressures are corrected to sea level.

It started at 975 hPa at noon yesterday (Sunday) and then showed an almost straight line rate of change to 1011 hPa at noon today, a change of 36 hPa in 24 hours. Looking at it now (1545) it has risen to 1016 hPa.

I can remember seeing higher rates of change, but none going on for so long. My device is usually quite reliable, but has anyone else recorded similar figures? Or does anyone know of a site giving pressure histories?

If you want to check/adjust it's calibration GB Windmap is relaible for pressures and you can pick a location near you. Best done when fairly steady and in the region of 1013mb. There's bit of a delay in the figures appearing. Same too with Ceefax p404

On Saturday my watch barograph which is pretty consistent recorded 12mb drop in four hours which explains why my ears were popping.

the aerodrome QNH at Luton airport ( I guess thats the closest to you?) at the moment is 1018mb....the QNH is the aerodrome pressure adjusted to mean sea level. Dont forget the pressure changes 1 mb for every 27ft of elevation!

Paul.

I have a Suunto Watch/Barometer/Altometer thing. Found it to be very accurate.

I used to work as a Landing Officer for a Helicopter at one of our sites that was 1350 m ASL, the Suunto was just as accurate as the kit on the helicopter.

Its not just your modern gadgets - my antique mercury barometer fell to less than 28.5 inches on Sunday, the lowest I have seen it, and has since risen steadily to 29.7 inches.
