Has anyone else suffered with accelerated growth build up this year?
I launched in March with a new and nicely polished prop (polished as normal). By last weekend I had lost 7-800 rpm and 2 knots of boat speed. A diver scraped it clean again and as if by magic the missing revs returned. He said there was a 3mm growth of crispy barnacles on each side of the blades.

Although our boat usage has been down slightly this year, I've never suffered like this before (3 years in Port Solent and 50 in Portsmouth harbour).

Not Port Solent but I have had the heaviest growth of barnacles on the prop in Poole for about 30 years despite using Mille Drive which has been effective in previous years.

Yes, i'm in Port Solent and last weekend we scraped a lot of barnacles and growth from the prop, considerably more than the previous year.

We launched late February this year.

Hull was good however, i'm using Seajet Shogun for the first time, and have to say i'm impressed, although the rudder was grotty.

I am using International Trilux-Prop-O-Drev on the prop and saildrive leg.

We have had similar issues in Hythe.

Boat arrived in early May with clean drives and props. by end of June the drives were completely covered in barnacles and the stainless props also had a lot on...

I spend a few hours in the water last weekend cleaning and its better but suspect it will not be the last time i am doing it this year.

I am led to believe (perhaps wrongly) that barnacles are generally early season critters so will be interesting to see if it continues.

fortunatly with the beautiful weather we are currently having, getting in is not such a trial for us but appreciate its much harder for sailing boats, not sure i would be comfortable with a snorkel and mask going under to attach the growth.

Yes. I stood the girl up against a harbour wall a month ago and found why I’d been experiencing terrible propulsion recently: prop covered in barnaclettes. Have only had the odd one before. Scraped them off with a knife and it was like having a new prop. I wondered if it was because she had spent some time in Brittany last summer. I’m about to scrub and antifoul the boat next weekend on piles.
