Barnacles kept away with sonic pest controller ?

Would sonic pest control reduce Barnacles under the hull ?
Any one know if they have ears ?

I hear that the history of these things is that military huls had "gaps" in the barnacles and that these gaps coincided with where the ratings kept their radios. So it might work.

We have much better results with Trilux mixed with copper powder. Not one barnacle depite being in the med where you can expect barnacles to cover the hull in 3weeks from clean new-painted surface using so-called copper enriched blah rubbish.

Who knows as it's not been tested, to my knowledge. There are sonic devices for Rodents, Moles (this one had to be removed from the market due to advertising standards) and even recorded distress calls of birds. The only one that works is the explosive bird-scarer. They usually stay away for about 10 mins. in marinas and airports. The only success story I've heard of for sonic pest control was for Spiders on a boat! May be worth a trial, but don't waste your money unless it's spiders you're after! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

the mobo mags used to make a tidy profit from people advertising/selling these ultrasonic things so somebody shd know if they work?

I meant not been tested for barnacles. I've been called to many premises for more normal species as in, Rats, Mice, Moles, Cockroaches, Ants, Moth, even Deer & Herons with these devices present. I can assure you they did not work in any of these cases.

Thanks for your input, if it worked on some boats I'll try it. It wouldn't cost me anything to try it as I have one at home which we used two years ago for ants.
Success as they went outside, I'll put it on the boat and see what happens, we do have one or two spiders outside so it may help.
It could drive the Mullet away that eat the Barnacles /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It has been tried but with out commercial success. one of my ex colleagues spent the best part of the 2nd WW trying to perfect an "antifouling" system using sonic /radio waves, he reckoned the most frustrating thing was the clean hull in the way of a radio siting as they couldn't perpetuate it all over the hull without causing "other" problems!
