Barnacle on stern drive

Hi,
I have both my stern drives off (DPG - 290 Volvo Penta) as it is time for a bellow change. While I have them removed I want to take off all barnacles on the transom ... Anyone with a good advise how to clean it throughly without damaging the gelcoat/ seal and steering cable. Thanks.

I use to scrape away what i could with blunt paint scrapers and screw drivers. Then hose off debris.

It’s a battle you will always lose. Scrape off what you can see and reach then relax with a beer.

A powerful industrial commercial jet wash is ideal for getting into all those little nooks and crannies on both the leg, transom plate/ rams etc.
Toy B&Q jobs will not do it.
Do it while the leg is off , virtually impossible to do the job properly with leg in situ on the boat .
Assume gearbox oil was clear and have checked the prop shaft seals , the gear change seals and perhaps the steering helmet seals while leg is off.

Little buggers aren't they, a flat blade (wallpaper scraper) then a powerwash sorted mine.

In theory you are supposed to leave a gap between the A/F on the boat transom and any coating on the leg ?
