On the chart the anchorage at Barn Pool in Plymouth Sound looks useful. What are the chances of getting ashore there in an inflatable, so as to walk the mutt? (after which we scrupulously clear up!)

Yes you can easily land on the stoney beach & walk doggie in park.
Just be aware that there are a few obsructions on bottom in there, whilst loads anchor it might be wise to fit a trip line!
Yes, it is a great place to stay.... fantastic long walks all the way to Kingsand through the woods and the parks. But don't do as I did and underestimated the rise of tide: I nearly lost my dinghy - haul it up to beyond the high water mark /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.
Nice pub round the corner too!

Just to echo what others have said really.
To miss Mt Edgcumbe on a visit to Plymouth is to miss the possibly the best short walks, gardens and marine views in the South West. There are Formal Gardens, Fountains, Georgian Buildings, Deer Park, Follies, Churches, a 30ft 300 year old hedge, Civil War Fort, and a magnificent panorama taking in Plymouth the Sound and out the Channel. There is also much more, including an interesting Elizebethan House well furnished with good pictures ( see the rather poor Reynolds, well he did paint it when he was 12), and horticulture of National importance.
Best of all, most of this is free - or should we say a gift from the taxpayers of Plymouth.
The biggest problem is finding some where shallow enough to anchor, most of it is 50 metres deap till very close in, so if theres more than two or three boats there, it's full.
Tuther problem is, dont get caught after they lock the park gate. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
