Barge Wailking Holiday in Burgundy anyone?

Simply lovely, I wish I could come.

I was deckhand / engineer for a season on a hotel barge in Burgundy and loved the countryside.

NB it gets REALLY hot so hats, sunblock and sunglasses on straps are a must.

Also - this would be unusual but I'll mention it - keep clear of ' floating bollards ' at locks, they have been known to jam then suddenly pop up and take people's heads off !

Very unlikely but worth knowing...

It will be a fabulous trip, one of the best in the world, I envy you.

Just check the aircon in the cabins and salon are working !

Our barges were rated ' 2nd from top, very good ' - the bloke who ran the top boats was so snotty nobody would work for him.

We had six double cabins, $6,000 per person in 1994 ( the very best food, best wine or champagne any time you like, visits to vineyards or chateaux ) - all barges catered only for American guests, but I heard 9/11 put a big dent in that.

One of the lower class barges had to make an emergency return to Dijon as evey loo had been broken by fat American arses ! :)

It was noticeable among our high class guests I never saw a fat one and they had a sort of secret competition to leave as much as possible on the plate; our young chef was a true genius - he taught me to love food - and this drove him nuts !
