Barge Match from Maldon tomorrow

There is a Barge Match starting at Maldon (or is that Osea?) tomorrow 25th July. There have been lots of barges going up river in the last few days, so there should be a good turnout and a fine spectacle - even half decent weather is forecast

I don't know about the weather, the latest ISWF from midday today to midday Sat is v 3-4 becoming NE 5 to 7 the backing NW 7 to severe gale 9 later, next 24 hrs is NW 6 to gale 8 becoming variable 3 to 4.

Doesn't sound that great to me for any sort of sailing activity, but no doubt the barges will cope, I wouldn't want to go out to watch though.

I wondered why I had not seen any barges. I checked the website and saw they started at 6.15 am. As they would have run down the Blackwater I thought they must have gone before I got up. Why was it cancelled?

Wind. It was blowing pretty hard overnight and early this morning, although the inshore forecast only gave 5-7. Last minute decision, I think. They were already setting out to get aboard the barges when it was made.
