Been watching a few gizmos on Ebay recently, having been told that there were loads of bargains to be had. There is currentlya single-channel Nasa Navtex pro that has bid up to £205 - while an outfit not unknown to this forum is offering new twin-channel jobs for £199. Silmilarly a Nasa HF3 receiver "very shop-soiled" went for £105 when a new one is only 140. Looks like the sellers are the winners here. I've got any amount of junk to get rid of - this could be the place. Any good experiences to report, or is this sort of thing the norm?

I sell and buy on EBay every few months.

Tech stuff does appear to reach good prices. eg. sold some usb wifi units for about £37 each, having only paid £32ish three months prior.

Key thing is the description. As much as possible in the title to increase chances of hits.

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

Some things go very cheaply, while other groups seem to reach RRP before you know it. I bought a Sony P10 digi camera a few months ago for £265 (+£15 p&p) when even Kelkoo could do no better than about £290, and second hand DVDs often sell for as little £3 or £4 when they are still in the shops at around £18.
I suppose it depends on how much the buyer really wants the item. On "Have I Got News for You" last week a cartoon signed by Ian (Private Eye) Hislop attracted no bidders at all! Not even at 99p!

Note of caution...

If you are buying on Ebay make sure you keep a paper trail of all transactions.
I send off £258 after winning a bid for an i-Pod mp3 player.
It never arrived (UK seller) but the money was transferred through Paypal from my Visa account. No response to Emails.
By this time the 30 day time limit for purchase protection was up... and Ebay's protection scheme needs notice of refusal by your credit card company to refund the cash. This can take a week or so to get hold of and the time limit is 90 days.
Luckily in my case my bank is able to chase the vendor and I will be getting a Visa refund.
Read the fine print and don't assume you are protected... I was, but only just.

Re: Note of caution...

I echo Gordon's sentiments. e-bay's payment protection policy is somewhere between poor and non-existent. If you want to buy take a good look at the feedback on the vendor before parting with any monies, however transmitted.

Plenty of stuff about this on the web, here and in hundreds of other Google places.

Amazing. The auction just finished, the Navtex went for 215 quid. If you're smart enough to bid by computer, how come you can't do a quick search and get a better product, new, cheaper, with guarantee etc.? Takes all sorts!
Never mind the payment protection, I'll stick to regular suppliers thanks!

I agree, I was bidding on the radio receiver, but the price got silly, I think the purchaser may have posted on PBO forum on how to now use it...

Every now and then there are some good deals, but most are overpriced.

i had a friends that used to list whatever Richer Sounds were offeering cheap, typically someone would bid lots for it, presuming it was enough he would then order one from righer sounds to be delivered straight to the lucky ebay winner, and pocket the difference.

Its also now full of so many traders selling new items for more than you can buy them on the web, rather than people having a clear out.

Shame really.
