As usual at lunch time I had a trawl through ebay and found this :

The description is great, anyone out their had a successful race season without a backstay?
"The mast works ok but where the back stay is join to the mast has broken off, but this has been like it since we have had the boat. never really had any problems.all you have todo to fix it is being able to weld alloy."
