So the heads' outlet sea cock's jammed. Completely and utterly stuck. The boat's being taken out of the water tomorrow for a lift and hold around luchtime. Someone's doing the seacock replacement, so, apart from shaving off the season's growth with a pressure washer, and checking the anode, any other suggestions for optimising the outrageous cost of a lift-out?

Cheers

Paul

Just remembered - log paddle wheel's sticky - how is that freed up?

Just done my paddle wheel, I can slide mine out then cap the tube, do need shift a few gallons after, but cheaper than a lift! This time it looks as though I have the whole harvest of shrimp pods for the east coast, and do they stink when they pop!

Avoid pressure hose from outside, on the paddlewheel is a metal chip which makes it work, and if that is blasted off you need a new paddle wheel!

You could save a wodge by not lifting out at all. Jamb a bung in the outlet from the outside, unscrew the seacock and replace. Provided the skin fitting is in good condition and will not slip as you unscrew, it's not too difficult. I did mine last year.

I've watched a mate change a seacock in the water where he couldn't get at the outside.

It's a bit scary 'cos the sea did seem remarkably keen on coming in to play once the old cock came off, but he stuck a bung in the hole and got on with it. I reckon he had to clear up no more than a gallon of water. Not sure I'd have had the bottle tho'
