Well, we've just had a great week here in Trieste for the 50th Barcelona regatta: 2689 boats entered, which makes it easily the largest regatta in the world. Warm sun and light winds. Over 25,000 people aboard and about 250,000 visiting the city for a week of events and other regattas and viewing the main event from the grandstand coast outside town. The winner, Spirit of Portopiccolo, did the course in 58 minutes, before most of the pack had even got to the first buoy...
Lots of pics on t'internet for those interested.

I sailed out of Laguna di Marano on Sunday hoping to head NE and view the fleet but found the light wind bang on the nose so turned SE instead. Turning back off Bibione the wind died so I motored back without a glimpse. Next time I'll make an earlier start and try harder. It must be an awesome sight to see so many sails, especially if stuck in their way in a slow old motor-sailer.

Yachts that had participated were returning to my marina all night and the next day, although I haven't had the chance to talk to them about it - next weekend maybe, as one who participated is moored on my pier.
