Banten Whip Omni Freeview UHF TV digital aerial

Hi,
In the absence of other replies:-
Going by looks and after reading the ebay description, I would be asking the seller to confirm if it has any capability with horizontally polarised signals.
It looks as though it would be fine for medium to good strength vertically polarised transmissions when at anchor or swinging.
Cheers
Bob

We have one of those. Works fine in many places just stuffed willy nilly behind the tv. Sticking it out the window or up the flag halyard with the little powered booster connected seems to take care of everything else. We'll have it stuck on the top of the mast when it comes down next winter.

I just fitted one of these : http://vtronix-antennas.com/style-sa-hdtv-mar8.html

Fitted to a 1m pole on the pushpit because a) the pole was already there and b) it didn't seem to work any better hauled up the mast on the spinnaker halyard. I'm in a rubbish area for TV radio and phone signals but it seems to work reasonably well. Some freeview channels, such as Dave, Spike etc don't work well but all of the more "mainstream" ones are fine. Mine is connected to my laptop via a cheap dongle, so may work even better on a proper TV.

This product might be OK but their VHF aerials are crap, I've had two of them (fitted at the same time) both leaked and corroded.

Interestingly, none of these three manufacturers' data sheets even mention polarisation.

I suggest you get the binos out and find the nearest land mounted TV antenna and if it is horizontal then don't waste money on any of these 'omnis'.

Cheers
Bob
P.S. On my swinging mooring, the nearest houses all use very large (long), and therefore highly directional, horizontally polarised yagis - we are in a West Country ria. There is no possibility of any TV reception on board except with a satellite tracker (as if that is going to happen!).
