As the maroons went up on Saturday afternoon a despondent Yarmouth berthing master commented that the big orange "AA" boat was in action again. Apparently only two shouts all winter and two over the bank holiday weekend.

There was one worrying incident, not requiring the lifeboat, on board a boat rafted just ahead of us on the pontoon. A flare went off in a cockpit locker, apparently the offending object, which was on a handy clip under the locker lid, got fouled as the locker opened, fell and ignited on impact. Loads of fire extinguishers from nearby boats on hand and a quick trip over to the quay for attention from a couple of fire engines. Would have been very frightening at sea!

Another good idea bites the dust then.

I once accidentally pulled a large smoke float off its bracket with a fouled mooring line.Kicked it away from the newly painted deck and hull! Then sheepishly reported it to HMCG.

Very impressed though it pushed out smoke for over 20 minutes filling our corner of the harbour quite nicely. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I was also in Yarmouth on Saturday listening to the VHF and was amazed how quickly they launched, it seemed that only a couple of minutes passed between the coastguard saying that the lifeboat would be launched and the boat launching. Very reassuring if you are ever unfortunate enough to find yourself needing assistance.
