As mentioned on an earlier post, we have the in-laws coming over next weekend. Looks like we have got them a room at The Olde Inn at Hurley, so was wondering what it's like for mooring near by.
I noticed in one book that there appears to be a mooring area at the hurley caravan park (fee), anyone know if it's good to moor there, and if so, what are the chances of getting a space on the bank holiday (saturday) - can you reserve?
Also, can you moor on the islands near the lock (round the back, so can still access hurley village) or are they part of the harleyford estate. If they are, can you moor there for a fee?

We hope to pick up our boat on Saturday and come to Bray then Harleyford. When are you leaving? Would be nice to go in convoy. Can I get fuel easily at Penton Hook?

Hi

You can moor on the Lock island, as you approach from Harleyford, do not go under the bridge but go around the island to the right.

After the Island you will see the moorings on the left hand side.

Avoid the end of the island by the point as Chavs like to swim there and might keep you up all night.

Vaguely remember that the Lockie charges there but its been so long since I stayed there I could be wrong.

Have a good one, we are off to Rochester!

Mike

There is a mooring (two small boats only) just by the bridge at the head of the lock on the nearside (mainland). It's owned by the caravan site - fee charged, but I would only recommend it as a last resort.

A better mooring is in the weir stream at the head of the lock (not too noisy as it's the overflow weir). proper bollards, and I think it may have 'leccy. You have to book in advance with the lockie.

The moorings on the downstream end of the lock Island as mentioned by Apollo are fine provided you are near to the tail of the island as further up the bank is high and you have to scramble up.

The other two (yes two) islands are Harleyford moorings, so keep off.

Harleyford does have a visitor mooring near the large footbridge upstream of Temple. Probably about £20 per night and would include use of showers etc. You could also use Showboat for food (bring your own booze (?)). Harleyford is very nice, so the extra facilities and the ambience are worth paying for...

Somebody said don't put 'phone numbers in posts, so you'll have to Google Harleyford and viisitthames for the lockie's number. Best to book a space soonest.

Didn't know about the moorings on the tail on the lock island, are these free?
The Harleyford visitors pontoon is free, well I've stayed there twice recently and not been asked for any money, but err... possibly I was supposed to though.

I think you got a way with it Chris. I don't think you can get from the Harleyford visitor moorings on to the footbridge though.
As suggested above, the best place is on the lock island, speak to the lockeeper and he will find you a spot for a small fee. It's just an easy walk over the lock cut bridges to the village and the hotel, The Olde Bell I think it is called.

[/ QUOTE ] - Correct.

Yes we probably did, but I don't think anybody there is particulary interested in taking money, especialy if you use the chandlery anyway. We have stayed above the lock just round the back of the island there but I didn't know about the downstream side, I had assumed that was Harleyfords bit.

The bit above the lock is now totally roped off, I noticed at the weekend, probably Health and Safety - there is a weir there you know!
At the back of the lock island downstream of the weir is definitely EA.
