I will be looking at a Baltic 37 later this week that is for sale locally and would appreciate any insight, weakpoints, comments. A mid-90's Dehler 37 is its main competition.

Thanks,

Chris

Can't help you with the Baltic, but if you want more information on the Dehler 37CR, we owned one for 3 seasons in the UK before p/ex against a new Jeanneau.
Please PM me with any questions you might have....I have a scan of a magazine report on the 37CR from YM or PBO I think.

Regards

Nick

We very seriously considered a Dehler 37 Cr - very nice boats with great layout - may have the magazine review somewhere if your interested. Interestingly we went for a Colvic Countess 37 instead - it appears your selling your Colvic!

Jonny -

I have enjoyed the Countess 33, it was a great project to get her back in good trim and for me to resume sailing after a long layoff. In some of the crap weather this summer she was steady and content when other boats were getting nervous. The Countess is somewhat less sprightly in light airs than the Dehler or certainly the Baltic, my primary reason for selling -- but she still seems to have a lot more interior room and will make a cruiser very happy.

To update, I ended up buying the Baltic 37. Many thanks for the references and PMs, they were quite helpful. She'll be getting some TLC over the winter and I look forward to next season.

Baltic 37 Update

Many thanks for the initial counsel and subsequent techncial help from this forum.

I've now owned my Baltic 37 "Brut" for several seasons, after a long first winter bringing her back to form. We race her locally and periodically over to the UK and back, and she is also a comfortable 'tour boat' on the Ijsselmeer when relatives or friends are visiting.

More info and phots are on our website, and feel free to PM if you are considering a Baltic 37 and your search pointed you here.

Regards,

Chris

I sailed the Round the Island Race on the Baltic 37 mentioned by EastCoastBernie, which is the same one mentioned by Sailorman. You would be hard pressed to fault her (the boat, not EastCoatBernie - I don't know her), but this particular owner looks after his boat better than almost anyone I know.

It sails better than any other boat I've sailed on and feels as tough as old boots.

For some reason I don't like the look of it, but you can't argue with the performance, and looks are a matter of taste.

Depending on where you sail, I suppose you could argue that the massive draught (2.3 metres I think) might be a disadvantage.

Pictures of "Beyond Reality" are here and some not particularly edifying movie clips here.

Some of the shots are more people and event snaps and not of great quality - forgive me for not editing them out for this purpose.

Realised after the fact that the thread was some years old. Apologies for wasting your time and any confusion caused to others by my previous post.

I must wake up.

Hi and sorry to resurrect such an old thread. However, I'm currently considering a Baltic 37 that would need re-engining if not now, in a couple of years time. It looks to me that you need to cut through the cockpit sole in order to get the engine out. Is that it? Of course the old Penta could be put to pieces inside, but how to get the new one in? Just wondering if someone has replaced the engine on their 37... Thanks.
