Apparently the Balmoral has sailed from Bristol to Sharpness today where extensive work will be undertaken to refurbish her in the hope of resuming sailings in 2015. £350,000 needs to be raised to secure this. It would be very sad if this old lady had to go to the scrap yard, she has become a Bristol Channel icon with a pedigree that stretches far back before the P.S. Waverly.

She looked great stretching her legs off Portishead last week. The Bristol Channel wouldnt be the same without regular 'steamer' sailings. I note Waverley is only offering a very limited season this year.

I watched the video of Balmoral sailing to out of the Avon to Sharpness. I was impressed as to how quiet her engines were, and to her ease of manoeuvre in the river. It would be a sad loss if she lost to the Bristol Channel.
