I have in mast furling, the other day I removed the Seldon car from the track on my boom only to realise straight away after that it is a recirculating ball bearing design. I managed to catch a couple of the ball bearings before they all disappeared over the side.

The ones I did manage to save measure 1/4 inch diameter and at first I assumed were Delrin however they are brown and the only replacement Delrin balls I have managed to locate are white. Have I made a mstake regarding the material, if they are not Delrin what are they, would Delrin be the best replacement anyway?

Many thanks

My Selden in-mast furling uses roller chains for the outhaul car, as I believe most Selden systems do. Which system is yours?

I lost the ones on my boom car too! A visit to a Selden dealer (Fox's Rigging) with the car enabled them to ascertain and supply the correct ball, and more importantly, loan me a special loading piece of track to get the expensive blighters back in the car and on to the boom track.

Balls

I had a ball shower from a (selden) mast car. Lost a few over the side as they bounce well. Got replacements from a Selden agent, (the material is Torlon and they are 1/4" on my boat ),but they are expensive so only buy what you need plus a couple more. It is a bit fiddly to put them in the car and then fit the end cap to hold them all in (I used some sellotape as a temporary hold).

Good luck,

Michael.

Best thing to hold the balls together when you load them in the car,is to put washing up liquid on them, so they stick together .Then rise out after fitting.
Much easier and you might not loose any more.
