So with my P34 just a say going under offer I expect to soon be boatless. Naturally enough I've not been able to resist some more detailed window shopping and something in the SoF (Cannes area) has cuaght my eye. Before I go any further can anyone suggest ball park cost to have a 7500kg, 12m boat with 4m beam trucked back?

£5-6k. Less if you bring it back across the channel yourself.

Thanks Jimmy; kind of what i thought. Bringing back across the channel entirely possible. Worry is it'd be a new to me 9 year old boat which based on experience of last two boats will have a few gremlins lurking no matter how well checked out beforehand. Maybe need to have Volvopaul on board with a box load of spare filters and belts :-) Anyway, early days yet, may come to nothing.

You are looking at this the wrong way. Shift the potential move funds into an in year berth rent/airfares fund and then spend time on the SofF boating and getting to know your new boat. By the time this phase has completed, you will be converted and want to stay. This will then require a new financial position of offsetting annual holiday expenses + boat expenses in the UK to one of keep the boat in the SofF and have all holidays there.

Trust me the above plan works!

I also used coast 2 coast to bring my Sunny back last Sept. £5000. + Vat. I’m about to take it back again so perhaps you and I could collaborate Adeolly and share the 2 way journey...... would have to help the negotiation ! I will PM you.

People always talk about cheaper back loads but I got the feeling that this would be 'gravy' for the haulier not the punter.

But I suspect there's more demand for boats going to the Med than coming back so you might be able to get a cheaper price if you're willing to wait for a suitable slot.

it's very early days days for me on this; I've not been to view yet. Whilst she looks brilliant in the photos, I don't know how old they are or what horrors may be hidden. Anyhow, I'll budget £5k in my man maths for transport. There's also a question mark over the VAT position.

@mcanderson - if only I could persuade SWMBO.....We do only live a 20 minute taxi ride away from Gatwick. Hmmm maybe I need to come up with a cunning plan

Coast2Coast charged us £4300 plus VAT Hamble to Port Grimaud in 2015 for a 10m Sailing boat, this included full risks insurance.
Highly recommend Coast2Coast, very professional. you shouldn't have any problem getting a return trip from a delivery to SOF so could be cheaper.

Nah, Jimmy's figures are correct. Last year we paid < £6k all in for Hythe to Sant Carles which is a much longer journey. Boat was a Targa 34 which needed pilot / escort car. You do need to shop around.

Yep, I'm pretty confident with my figures - I've done it three times now, and it's been about the same each time (12m mobo with escort, Swanwick to SoF, Coast 2 Coast).

I think you're answering your own question ... Mcanderson's suggestion is spot on. Fwiw I am 25 mins from the short stay car park at Gatwick and I've been down to the boat eight times so far this year, that's how easy it is.

I concur with the others, boating in SoF is well worth trying out. It's so easy to get to Nice from LGW or LHR or LTN - flights are cheap and short and the weather means you get to actually use your boat.

get her to drop u at Gatwick even better

Ha excellent! That would go down really well ........ Not!!

Boating in the Med is 100% on my bucket list, but with the kids in secondary school and all that goes with that, it's highly debatable if I should be bunging £100k into another boat at all right now given the pressure on time. If I were being "sensible" I'd make do with something smaller and cheaper until kids were off in Uni and I get some time back. But this is boats we're taking about - man maths and man justification are the key drivers ;)

Lots to ponder at the moment....
