The toerail on my 32 footer has suffered some cosmetic damage (several dents / scrapes) in a racing "incident". (There is no other damage.)
I was just wondering if anyone knows very roughly how much it would be likely to cost to have a yard fit a new one?

Ouch ...
We've just put back a bent one ... it took 3 evenings, a large bit of steel to clamp against, several clamps ... a bit of BF&I ... and will need to be finished off at the end of the season ...

but then, we're didn't claim on someone elses insurance ... cos there was no one else involved!

Not much help but I think it's one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions. It depends how difficult it is to take the old one off; it can be a nasty job job. If you get a quote they'll quote over the odds to ensure that they are covered. If you don't get a quote then.......do you trust the yard?

Is it an insurance job?

Had the whole rubbing strake (is this what you meant) all round taken off and replaced last winter. Major job as the inside of every through bolt (every 6 inches or so) were embedded in the galssfibre of the hull to deck lay-up and had to be ground down. The yard did other jobs at the same time so my best guess of the cost of this element is circa £1500 inclusive.

Last year I was quoted £3000 on a 36 footer, this included a small gel coat repair.
I guess it depends how difficult it is to get to the fixings, in my case all the head lining had to be removed to get to them, hence lots of labour.

I had an Iroko one fitted to a 25 footer in about 1995 - It was straightforward and didn't involve any work down below - just screwed into the top of the glassfibre and set in epoxy. I think it cost around £600.

Thanks all - gives me a rough idea. I think ours may be relatively straightforward as it is one of those modern boats where they fit out most of the inside before bolting the top on. (It is an aluminium extrusion that it through bolted - and only one side , of course. Whether or not it's insurance depends, in part upon the cost! - hence the enquiry.)
