On my Fulmar I have a balanced rudder and when sailing it is light to the touch. However under engine above about 4½ knots, let the tiller go and it will hit full lock in 2 seconds, so I would have to rig the autopilot. Recently I tried something under engine and found I could leave the tiller for 10 to 15 seconds to do something like zoom in on the chart plotter, as I cannot reach it holding the tiller. The answer is so simple. Take the engine out of gear, leave for 5 seconds, and she will steer straight. Cutting the power stops the prop wash that flips the rudder.

Hope someone finds this tip useful.
