Assuming the weather still looks OK, I am planning to tow the boat down to Poole for the day on Saturday.

Is Baiter still OK to use, and does it still get very busy? If so what time would I have to arrive to be sure of parking the car and trailer?

Cheers

Billy

Yes and Yes. Earlyish to get a car parking space. If the weather is set to be fine expect a lot of PWC's. Very gentle gradient ie your going to get wet if the tide is in or out. I've used it before on a number of occasions but have avoided LWS as you walk almost to the harbour entrance, ok thats a bit of a lie but you get my gist.

Also look at Rockly Point. A better slip with waiting pontoon. Launch all states of the tide and not as "public" as the public slip at baiter. Bit more costly though. Baiter was around 8/9 quid'ish last time I used it. Pay in the machine, take lots of coinage.........if its still the same!

If you have used it before, it has not changed except that it, or at least the carpark get busier every year especially when the weather is good.
If you haven't it is a very shallow slipway and if you cannot push your boat and trailer by hand you will need to be prepared to get your car wet....probably very wet!

I agree with dpb and BarryH,get there as early as possible as it does get busy and its not the largest carpark in the world. Pay at meter for car parking and launch is free. Slipway is very very shallow,so if you have a largish boat which sits quite high on the trailer then you may need to go elsewhere as you wont be getting it off i suspect.others may have a better idea. You may also need to use the rope to launch and recover, you know, tie a rope to your car,50ft of rope, tie it to your trailer, that way you wont get your car wet. Tap at top of slip to wash off.

hi
i dont now what boat you have but if it is less than 6ft9" high and 6ft9" wide you can launch from lake road, hamworthy,on the way to rockley, its free with lots of free on road parking, i use it a lot.plenty of space to rig up etc out of peoples way.
just dont tell everyone!!

Why the dimensions Lee, is there a barrier?

I'm looking on google earth, is it at the back of a council estate, behind some gardens. If so, whats the slip area like bud.I have a mate with a small boat who's always looking for a free slip.

hi
yes there is a barrier but i can drive through it with my isuzu trooper with a few inches to spare without moving the mirrors and it goes under ok but i have not tried it with a roof rack on.
on the way to rockley park you go under a bridge and there is a pub, cant think what it is called now, anyway ,drive straight past it and the road goes of to the left, take the straight on bit and your there, the slipway is rubbish,if the tide is out drive down to the water, loads of space and quite hard ground(rubbish as a beach though). if the tide is in you cant manouver in there so unhitch and push through the barrier. you can usually park really close or chuck the car around the corner outside teddy sherringhams place.

google earth type in----lake road poole .
follow that road down towards the water but dont follow it around that last bend ,go straight on.easy access to wareham river for the pubs and chip shops! play in the harbour or get out into the bay, great stuff.
