Only been that way once but went to Lampaul. IIRC we picked up a mooring just outside the little harbour.

We had an excellent meal in the Duchesse Anne http://www.hotelduchesseanne.fr/ but it was good few years ago* so no guarantee its still as good.

*1-2 July 1981 It was good meal.. it must have been to remember it after all this time

never stopped at Baie Du Stiff mainly because of all the ferry traffic which has put me off. I head instead to Lampaul which is much better and there are a number of free moorings. With the forecast looking like its only going to be light winds from the sw it should be fine in there. There are several bars and restaurants but be advised that they charge a premium price compared to Camaret which is pricey enough.

Free did you say? I'd better make a note of that on the chart

A third for Lampaul no reason to anchor have been in several times during the high season and never had a problem picking up a mooring and food is available and good but as Scillypete says can be expensive.

Ushant is a terrific island. If heading for Lampaul, don't be put off my the huge swell that is often running once you start to make the entrance. By magic, it seems to disappear when you get to the head of the bay. At least, it did for me.

Are the mooring buoys for visitors obvious at Lampaul, or is it a case of pick one and hope you don't get turfed off?

Th mooring buoys were big and white when I was last in there a few years ago, as for Ile de Sein being stuck there for a tide once I don't think I would bother going back the small cemetery was about the most interesting place on the island. Funny thing all the dogs seem to bear an uncanny resemblance to each other and so do the people very small gene pool I suspect:rolleyes:

A few pics taken the last time I was there.

Not a great shot but you can make out the moorings and in the unlikely event you find them all full on arrival there is loads of room to anchor as well.

Looking into the little harbour from the quay

Towards Lampaul from the moorings. We landed at the quay to the left of the slip on that trip, but previously I have gone up into the drying harbour with the dinghy the entrance to which is over to the right.
