I'm thinking of a week in the Bahamas in September.

It looks wonderful in the brochures - what is it like really?

Also, there'll only be two of us and most of the charter fleet seems to be 40ft+, which is coming in at a higher price than my budget allows - are there no 32-36ft yachts there for couples?

As above you have to watch the Hurricane season but I have sailed extensively in the Bahamas and LOVE it.

Some of the out islands are breathtaking with incredible sea life.

But Bimini is just 60 miles from the USA and we really enjoyed it, especially south Bimini. Here is an unstaged pic of the beach we anchored off.

We loved our two weeks in the Abacos in August. It is so shallow that the sea temperature has to be experienced to be believed. It's the only time we have all been midnight swimming with waterproof torches and been as warm as toast! However, the shallowness means that, unless you are in a cat, it's easy to keep running into the sand!
