I passed by Tesco on Thames the other day and was apalled by the number of rubbish bags left hanging on the adjacent railings.

Is anybody, (those hogging the moorings) trying to make a statement that they want boat refuse bins? If so, may I suggest that those that do pay for the service and stop making the towpath look like a dump. It is amazing how some people like to live like pigs on our wonderful river.

Regards.

Alan.

The ones who are semi-permanent there probably aren't reading these posts so may not take up your suggestion.

The semi-permanent moorers are very much in the minority along that bank(but an easy target). Much as I object to their refusal to pay their way, I've always had friendly, polite interaction with them (usually when local wannakers have released/stolen their dinghies). I have to say.....they're by far the friendliest river users I've met in general terms.

During the past week or so there have been plenty of holiday rentals along that stretch, including two sgroups of about 10 on Caversham boats who were chucking plastic bags onto the bank. Whether their junk was then moved somewhere else I have no idea.

Tesco's used to hang bin bags out there for boaters to put rubbish in and take it away, sort of complimentary service for stopping and using the store.

Yes, passed by a couple of days ago. The river has really gone down hill on this area. Having
said that the clientele over the entire river has degraded somewhat over the past 30 years
I have been associated with it. Nevertheless it is still a great river and doing no worse than anywhere else in this island of ours.

The "Plastic Bag Tree" is a growing phenomenon as is decorating walls and fences the same way.

The fruit will normally contain.......
A.Other plastic rubbish.
B.Old Nappies.
C.Rotting food.
D.Empty beercans or water bottles.
E.Dog Shi.t

An lazy attempt to tidy up.....fine until the weather degrades the plastic and it then all falls to the ground.
Why wont peeps take there blimming rubbish home ?

I maybe missing something here but everybody hangs their rubbish on the railings outside Tesco's, that's where it gets picked up from! even done it myself, although it was in the provided collection bags. Has something changed:confused:

No, its not in the provided black bags, its in all sorts of bags hung all over the place. The whole place looks a right dump and there is positively no excuse for it. Its just crass laziness on the part of the filthy element of the boating fraternity. Heaven knows what foreign tourists who hire boats on the Thames make of it.
