I wonder if i could prevail upon some of the obvious piping expertise hereabouts? I have putthe thing togehter but jeez it ispretty hard getting a noise out of it. The chant is like a normal wind instument exceptthe whole item would best be powered bya small compressor rather than lungs, realy. I have plugged the bass and one tenor drone, bash the bag thing to get it going and can just about play that well-known Glasgow tune NEE-NAW-NEE-NAW but i can't make it last more than a couple of bars before the bag thingy deflates. It must need loads of blowing? Or am i doing it wrong?

Oh, and i am going to use it in fog on a boat so quite boaty

hm i think the dying cat cat noise would be better. Cos the cat dies doesn't it? It doesn't spend 45 minutes dying, and nor soes it die again for another half an hour every time i have a go at it.

I've seen many of them played, and it looks pretty easy to me. My brother can get a damn good tune out of a bagpipe if provoked enough.
Practice, I think. Possibly some instruction.

You could always try the Northumbrian Pipes. These are powered by a bellows pump under the other arm (much like a dinghy pump). It is a much quieter instrument better suited to indoor playing.

basically whilst a scotsman can play them cos the scots are brilliant its a two man job for lesser nationalities !!

A bit of advice.

Learn to march about while attempting to play them. This is probably the most important part, and MUST be learned very early on.

It's harder to shoot a moving target.

Also are you aware that bagpipes are the missing link between noise and music?

Ah now Duncan - I think I know where your garage is & I live within striking distance... so when I come piping down Kippen's main street you'll know me (a) because I'm on a skateboard to avoid your rifle sights, and (b) I can often be found playing a set of electronic German Deger pipes with all sorts of things like midi outputs! My skateboard will have a 12v battery strapped to its stern...

tcm - are you trolling or do you want some advice on the much mis-understood melodious instrument?!

Ah the skirl o' the pipes...
best heard at a distance.

several years ago whilst serving with the R.N. a jeremy of
Scots hue decided to "pipe us in" to the port of Rotterdam.

Rotterdam has an EXTENSIVE dock system, and when we
eventually tied up said officer looked like so much boiled sh**e,but, just like The Bruce he did'nae give up!

Good luck,you'll need it
have you considered the kazoo?

Jeez, the thought of you strutting around the flat with a set of under driven feeble pipes is almost too much to contemplate.

Thing about Scotland is there's loadsa remote glens where you can get to grips without being served an ASBO. Unlike central London, see?

Remind me to bring a sharp fid on my next visit to your Sunday school

This reminds me...

Do you know the definition of a Scottish Chentleman?

Someone who can play the bagpipes...

but doesn't.

What's that bloody noise?

Is it that Bratford oik trying to kill the neighbourhood cats again. It looks like he's trying to make out he's playing the bagpipes this time.

Doesn't wash in Blackheath.
