Just had a bad experience with Towergate Insurance brokers.

I contacted then regarding cancelling our business insurance policy as we are shutting down the business. I gave them the date we will stop taking new business which is about three weeks to go before it needed renewing.

They cancelled the policy then arranged a refund ... but they took off a commission for the closure. I was not told they would take the commission when speaking over the phone.. Well we got the check and statement. £80 refund less £30 commission..

When I queried the Commission I was told ,, "it is in the terms of the policy sent out to you. We are entitled to keep the commission".

I commented they had not said anything about the commission when discussing the policy. His reply was.. "it is in the documentation we send you.. We are entitled to keep the commission.. We have not done anything wrong"

I think it is a bad way to treat someone.. and would urge people to think carefully about Towergate .. They also work for Aviva..

I also wonder about £30 commission in £80 worth of insurance premium... Is that a lot high?

Tomahawk,

I commiserate but maybe you got off relatively lightly, compared to my girlfriend selling her home; every phone call to lawyers costs her well over £100, and the surveyor getting dimensions wrong somehow costs her megabucks !

I wanted to go into bat, but the b*****s have ground her down so she has lost her fighting spirit, and she's a very feisty lady who was known as 'Spitfire' !

The only good lawyer / insurance broker is one with a roundel on his or her jacket, running around Bisley sniper range !
