Aerials especially mast head aerials give a fair bit of trouble compared to the modern reliable VHF set it self. So with 2 sets you certainly should have 2 aerials one mast head and one on pushpit. This also separates the aerials to minimise power into the receiver of the other set. As for the old sailor set OP will decide himself. I like to keep my boat as free of clutter as possible which for me would include too many radios. good luck olewill
