First Mate and I sailed into Littlehampton at the end of the flood today and came alongside our berth at Dukes Wharf. We left on 22nd May and sailed as far North as Londonderry. We returned via the IOM and took in the Manx Grand Prix and the associated Classic races. The weather was OK, but nowhere near as hot or sunny as it was in the South. Reading about how hot and uncomfortable it was made us glad we were not dealing with 38 degrees C!

The boat behaved itself very well, just a pump failure in the shower sump and I changed a couple of fuel filters. I need to fit a smaller diameter furling line to the new furling Code Zero. This was not used much but has proven to increase light wind performance dramaticaly.

Today we left Itchenor at 1115 and sailed through the Looe Channel in 8-10 knots true at a wind angle of100 - 110 degrees. We were doing 5.5 kts.

With the OE sailplan, self tacking jib and main we might have done 3.5 kts. and would probably have Motorsailed.

The main and Code Zero is a lightwind game changer!

We visited, in order, Dartmouth, The Yealm, Fowey, St. Mawes, Newlyn, Kilmore Quay, Arklow, Howth, Skerries, Carlingford, Ardglass, Strangford's Quoile River and Ballydorn, Bangor, Belfast, Carrickfergus, Glenarm, Ballycastle, Portrush, Lough Foyle and Londonderry, Portrush, Rathlin Island, Glenarm, Ballyholme Bay, Carrickfergus, Strangford's Ballyhenry Bay, Ardglass, Peel, Arklow, Newlyn, Dartmouth, Weymouth, Hamble, Itchenor and Littlehampton.

A great trip. We sat out a storm on the Quoile Clubs mooring and were storm bound in Newlyn six days. We left the day after Concerto. I think we had a less squirrely passage.

Welcome back home Rotrax , so I take it you be off again next week :)
we probably got another three months before we sail back to Suffolk after the unexpected Northern Europe cruise .
Until two weeks ago it's been very hot and without a Bimini on our lastest boat we had to make do with some plastic over the boon when we been at anchor .
Now it's wet, windy and at time cold , very different to what we been use to this time of the year in the Med.
sorry guys no video,

Welcome home @rotrax

Were you in Londonderry during their maritime festival? We sailed there 4 years ago to coincide with the arrival of the Clipper fleet (a pal was one of the pros). A great time was had by all, fond memories.

No, we purposely went afterwards. The mooring spaces were very busy during the Festival.

Walking Londonderry's walls was on my bucket list, now achieved.

Keep up at the back ? The Andersen 22 isn’t the only boat capable of regularly exceeding its hull speed. I can think of at least 2 others ?
But shurely the Anderson got there first ??

Rotrax, your trip sounds great

I think you might have possibly found a wheelhouse /deck saloon ti be a tad warm on some of those windless summer days we’ve had .
( I loved L’hamptons character when the wharf was commercial unloading of building materials , and the Three Brothers parked in the slip , then they went and built town houses all over it .. and up went everyones expectations ?)

@rotrax welcome home. Sounds like a wonderful trip. I really must get of my ar*E and plan an adventure. I’ve not had one for a couple of years and my feet are getting itchy.

I knew Littlehampton as a boy 60 plus years ago. I used to catch school Bass from just about where we have our mooring.

Sad news - its only Two Brothers now. It is still in the same family but one succumed to Covid. It was on Dukes Wharf but has gone back over the other side of the river.

Littlehampton suits us fine. Not pretentious and gentily shabby, a bit like me..................................

The large glazed pilot house was rarely too warm. It would have been on the South Coast though, 38 degree tempretures would have been hard to cope with.

We met plenty of boats that had left North Scotland. They were all fed up with the cold so came to Ireland where it was often cool, but not cold.

The Scottish retailers apparently sold lots of thermal underwear and wooly hats this year........................................

Do Bass swim in schools (until caught)? Or was it a beer-drinking school? Either way, a good upbringing...
