Baby Blakes

You'd think that with all the Baby Blakes installed throughout the country that someone [it should be the manufacturers] would have come up with an etched brass plate to go with the head at the time of sale. There are, of course, companies who do this etching to make signs of any kind at all. The problem is that the set-up cost makes single orders prohibitive, but if it is possible to get a swindlery to buy up the extras, it could be worth doing. My brother wanted an etched brass plate for his vintage Alvis, so he had a dozen made and flogged off the ones that he didn't want to other Alvis owners. They were chuffed to get them, and he ended up with his for free plus a bit.
Peter.

May be I'll have to go it alone and get one made. She's a splendid beast - fully refurbished and repatriated from Scotland. I'm just tired of either instructing guests & crew how to use it properly and the choice of either misusing the thing - with inevitable results. Old Frank

I printed a sheet that is now stuck on back of WC door .. still get asked what to do though !!

Hate to sound snotty but these khasis are about 800 notes new (mine is a recon). It sits, shiny and resplendent amidst newly scraped down, mahogany panelling - which of course took hours. Whilst laminating would do the job - after all this, I'd prefer something more permanent - and fixed without sellotape or drawing pins! Perhaps the manufacturer might come to the rescue - can't believe I'm the only one with this problem. Old Frank

it`s your *rse, i suppose /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif but with what are you going to fix up your fancy plate. i use nice little brass screws and collars to fix the laminated radio instructions - tasteful enough for a blake even, imho.

What are you thinking of putting on the plate? How about...

Little handle - in
Big handle - out

If you thump the big handle hard down you will get a little bit of out in the eye /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hi Frank,
I've got an engraving machine, and I'll make you one on brass. If you want me to then you could make a small donation to the RNLI. Just let me know exactly what you want it to say.
Alan

I don't have anything quite so fancy as an engraved set of instructions on my Hillyard, but the original set of Baby Blake operators instructions are still attached to the bulkhead... probably still with original 1968 drawing pins! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not sure when you last checked, but the local swindelry is asking close on £2k for a new BB !!!
I have to wonder who would buy one /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
The service kit alone is £129, more than the cost of some new loos.

Is there any way of getting just the parts you need, rather than whole kit?
I have inherited with my BB, a large bag of unused spares, none of which I am sure will be the actual bits to get the outlet pump working smoothly again.

I changed the BB for a Blakes Lavac (but it sits in a box so I am not bothered about it being pretty). One of the best improvements I have done to the boat - but even so, Blakes (now onwed bySeasure) charge a ridiculous amount for the Lavac service kit. Now I am changing cookers to a second-hand Taylors, I feel more notes will be going their way!

Just a little fred drift I wonder what has happened to

Try ringing Blakes Lavac
http://www.blakes-lavac-taylors.co.uk/contact_blt.htm

A helpful chap just gave me the part numbers for the seal on the discharge pump which I hope will cure the afforementioned squirt in the eye. He suggested ordering from Mailspeed Marine so that is the next challenge.

I posted that I have instructions typed up and on back of bog door .. but really they tell more about where the valves are.

As to operating the bog ... I have a GWO BB who has neede nothing serviced except refills of the grease cups every so often ....... even when I have difficulty with russian only speaking persons - they seem to have no difficulty pumping two handles ...
