Baby Blakes Flush - What\'s It Worth?

Hi all,

Having taken out the original Baby Blakes flushing mechanism from our forward heads (lever was taking up too much room) I'm looking to sell it and wondered if anyone can give me an idea of how much it's worth.

It was serviced two years ago with a Baby Blakes service kit (that alone cost me £90!), though there is some resistance in the flush. There is a little corrosion but I'm sure it could be brought back to its former glory.

Any pointers/ideas greatly appreciated.

Don't know about the flush itself, but I gave my Baby Blake to a local chap who was re-building a traditional wooden boat, after offering it free on the For Sale forum here.

Maybe there's a worthy person near you?

Re: Baby Blakes Flush - What\'s It Worth?

Damn it! I was looking for a small fortune for it!

I should point out that it must be the same age as the boat, 18 years old.

Tee hee! I know what you mean! Although mine was a 1973 model, it was in near perfect condition having been removed from the original boat and stored in my garage for well over 20 years.

I just remembered how I struggled to afford parts when building my first couple of boats and how generous some people were to me then and thought ......

Re: Baby Blakes Flush - What\'s It Worth?

Yeah, you're right. I'd prefer to see it go to a good home and be used rather than clutter up my boat and hidden away in a cupboard, never to be seen again for 5 years.

I gave mine away too. Tried to sell it for a paltry sum but no takers..

Re: Baby Blakes Flush - What\'s It Worth?

I didn't, but then I'd watched a few fail to sell on there too.

Yep, I looked there too and people were asking ludicrous prices for something which, let's be honest, most SWMBO's I know would absolutely refuse to attempt to use or even have on board!

I'm damned if I can see why they cost so much, especially as the Lavac, which is far, far, superior IMHO, is a fraction of the price.

I'd love to know how many new ones are sold each year!

Re: Baby Blakes Flush - What\'s It Worth?

Yep, completely agree. Having had one on the boat I'd never buy a new one. It's all about prestige I guess.

Lavacs are definitely the best loos I've used on a boat, but we still have the original Baby Blake bowel and lid, now with Jabsco hand pump. I have to say the china bowels do look great and 'feel' like a proper toilet!

If you are giving stuff away, see if there is a Freecycle network in your area. We have found it very quick and effective, no worries about packaging and posting, those who want it collect it. We have successfully shifted a lot of boat bits ( plus the usual domestic stuff) including a set of curtains that came with our Westerly and a classic Phillips GPS.

Over here in Marmaris we have the Sailors Net on channel 69 every morning at 9am, so I have a few things lined up for that tomorrow. Just bought myself a genuine CQR for £15 this morning!

There was one for sale at netley on Sunday 2nd hand at £185 my bucket cost £1.50 no bits to go wrong either. Bursledon chandlery barge may give entry fee for next boat jumble believe they have a website - email a photo ?
