We now have a 9 week old who has been on the boat a few times. So far slept in his moses basket. Problem being he's getting too big for it.
Any suggestions, apart from leaving him behind, where he can sleep or in what. Cardboard box has been mentioned but swmbo not happy. I did tell her it wasn't for her.

My youngest is a bit older at 16 months but everytime she has been on the boat I put her in her car seat. I just tie it to one of the seats and it's bang on. She always falls asleep in it even yesterday when we we're caught in a hail shower for 10 mins. Works a treat.

I have the same problem depending on the size of your boat i brought a travel cot. If you shop around most are a standard lengh but i got one with a very small width and they can be left to play in it while your moving around the boat. It worked with my 15month old nad hes a little G?xIT !

We do i have the Flybridge version. I have a travel cot that fits at the end of the bed in the forward cabin. Leaves it a bit tight to get in and out and you cant shut the door but fits perfect. I will let you know where we brought in from when i get home. (Wifes department)

Wow, you must have a big baby to have grown out of the moses basket at 9 weeks, ours stayed in that for 6 months, then onto a travel cot.

By the way good luck when he starts crawling and walking around the boat, you need the eyes of an eagle and nerves of steel!

Our little girl was 9 months old when she was first on the boat. We used the car seat when entering and leaving the berth and so couldn't hold her ourselves. Then at other times we have used a similar travel cot to the one mentioned here - samsonite travel pop up cot. We just made sure all the area around the cot was padded with pillows, duvets etc.

It has worked very well for us so far but we're going to have to come up with something else as she gets bigger!

My fore cabin bunks have canvas storm sheets that increase the side height by about a foot, never tried putting a baby in them however.
With the rocking and rolling I'm getting at the moment moored in Veerhaven Rotterdam perhaps I should sleep up forard tonight and try em out????

FWIW, when my son was too old for his basket but too young for a berth, I converted a dressing table in the aft cabin of a Princess 435 that we had at the time into a cot by having a chippie make up a removable wooden railing and cutting some foam to size. If you do this, be sure that the gaps in the railing are too narrow for the child to get his head through

Yeh wow. Full story is we are having a house built, not ready for another 7 weeks (roughly) and didn't expect him to be about 2inches off the end of moses basket till then. He must be the milkmans because i'm only 5'4".
Will check out the pop up's for the boat.
cheers

Agree with all the comments above - car seat for travelling, travel cot in the f'ard berth overnight and a good fitting lifejacket. Ours is now 3 and been boating since 3 months. Loves it to death but has no fear - until the first time loony meets water ..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Go for it, relax and they enjoy it too. Mine has a bit of a complex about the engine noise but get yourself a JoJingles CD and crank it up. You feel a bit of a prat singing along to "old king cole" at 20 knots but it sure keeps him happy !!

Good luck

Oh forgot one more thing - if you need a bath (showers are fine at 3 but try it with a baby) go surfing and find yourself a Floaties paddling pool. You can get a decent amount of water in and they've got plenty of room to wash.

Happy days ....

I used raggie netting and rope to enclose a bed.
the top was fastened with quick release catch.

It was like a play pen, she loved it.

(the sort of white netting they put around the decks to stop them falling overboard).

I would have thought the moses basket should last another year at least, just make sure he cant tip it off a bed, it should be on the floor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
