Met Office Inshore for Dover - 3rd September

Wind Southwesterly 7 to severe gale 9, occasionally storm 10 at first in east, veering westerly 5 to 7 later.
Sea state Rough or very rough, occasionally moderate later.
Weather Squally showers.
Visibility Moderate or good.

It's still meant to be summer for goodness sake !!!

My garden, overlooking the channel, looks like it does in February, patio furniture everywhere and plant pots strewn every which way.

Boat is still up the Thames and hoping to bring it back from St. Kats on Sunday afternoon - looks like a weather window then.

You do know there is no such thing as bad weather? Just the wrong sort of boat in the wrong location (apparently)

An Old Gits thread on the subject

I read that thread and I certainly agree that, given a perfect world (i.e. unlimited budget), I would be able to forget our abysmal weather. However, everything at my level is a compromise and I suppose I will just have to put up with it.

There would be little problem in us moving to the Med but, apart from the weather, I don't want to. I love visiting but would not choose to live there permanently. Especially as family ties would only stretch that far for occasional visits - not good enough for us at our time of life.

I'd just settle for a boat with a cabin large enough for a sofa, a fridge and a TV / DVD setup, so I could go below with a beer and watch a film in comfort.

You have seen films where B17 flying fortress crews swing their legs up to get in the nose hatch?
That's how we get in our cabin.

A Squadron 50 in the Ionian would do it for me, unfortunately I find my wallet too thin to support that lifestyle to the tune of a couple of million quid.

Brought the boat back from St Kats to Dover on Sunday after three weeks (third week in the tender care of eldest son) up the Thames. Went up as far as Benson (younger son stationed there).

Scrubbed the plan to visit Holland due to the uncertain weather and the worry about getting back for certain appointments. There's always next year.

Weather SW'ly 3/4 and a good run.

Left St Kats at 1500 berthed in Dover at 1930 an average of 20 knots cruising at 3000rpm. The new turbo charger running like a dream.

Of course, overcast throughout and a bit of wind over tide at South Foreland ensuring the need for a good wash off later.

Here's hoping for an Indian summer before the boat comes out of the water at the end of October. I like to get the work done before Christmas when it is not too cold, that way I can use the boat on good quiet days after the New Year.
