Well, we had a glorious day re rigging Full Circle. Magna Cater, bereft of boat offered to come down for the weekend as he is missing his boat fixing.
After a groggy start due to over grogging last night, we set about it.
Got all the front ones up, 2 spin halyards, 2 Genny halyards, and also got the main up, but then, just as it was going so well, we broke the mouse getting the topping lift in. B@gger.
Not to worry, will do it when we go back in, just 3 weeks away now.
We had a saunter down to Mailspeed, and then across to the Royal Corinthian for a couple of pints on the balcony. Glorious weather, and we were rewarded with a Freedom 35 belting up and down the river, and some other cruising boats going well in the F5ish blow.
Best though, was watching the kids in the Oppies, a fleet of 20 or so all sailing in a shoal, and looking tied together, turning one after the other. Great stuff.

FC still a mess down below, and looking unpolished, but we are getting there.

We did also manage to fit a new tacktick wind instrument head set at the top of the mast of another forumites boat... a wee distraction of a couple of hours..... I guess being light isn't always an advantage /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif..... and congrats to Full Circle for not flinching as the cordless drill jerked to halt on its lanyard 3 feet short of his head.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif mind you , it would probably have bounced /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes, we saw the one with mizzen and genny - going east when we saw them. You probably saw us too, storming westwards with a reef in the main and partly furled genny, going like the clappers on a close reach. We moved to the south side of the river to avoid the oppies - a whole lot of ducklings following the rib. One at least, bailing madly!

It was a gorgeous weekend - we were the only one at anchor in Yokesfleet with 5 seals for company, then a blast out to Foulness in the morning and back on the tide - we saw perhaps a couple of dozen other boats the whole weekend!

Why have your boat out of the water, FullCircle, when there's sailing like this weekend to be missed?

I used to crew on an East Coast One Design in the mid 70's (I think they are all gone from the Crouch now). My memory is hazy but just remind me - is the RCYC that handsome looking building which I vaguely recall the late John Betjeman described as one of the finest examples of Art Nouveau architecture in Britain?

AliM,
I have a picture of Vela Rose taken in Yokesfleet in July last year, as you were anchored right next to us....
