Left Salcombe last week on a large SW wind and swell and the mast head wind vane (c-type) approx 1980ish jumped ship. Unfortunately they are obsolete and I am hoping that perhaps some forumite may have a spare unit in the garage somewhere. The rest of the mast head unit is working fine and having to look at the burgee continually is giving me a crick in the neck. With thanks.

Yes have spoken to Tinley in Lymington. They no longer stock the windvane.

Sailorman, Its a Hengist but the wind vane is interchangeable with the Hornet. Its only the vane I need but happy to buy the whole mast head unit if someone has one.

Whilst making anemometer cups is difficult, making a replacement direction vane is not too hard. The only really important issues are that the hub needs to shield the bearings from direct water ingress, and the whole thing must balance about the pivot point. The actual vane can be thin aluminium sheet. I have a spare VDO Logic masthead unit with only the boss of a vane, and will make a new vane for it when I get back to the UK.
