Anyone dismantled and repaired a B&G Network Wind head transducer - the masthead unit that provides the wind speed and direction? Mine is reporting correct wind speed but is not providing the correct wind angle. I suspect a fault on the circuit board in the head unit, as I can read varying voltages on the 3 signal lines at the base of the mast, so it is not an open circuit fault.

I've previously sent the transducer for repair a couple of years back and it cost an arm and a leg! I'd like to have a go myself before sending it back again, but would like to borrow someone's knowledge on how to open it up and what the circuit board looks like.

It all unscrews relatively easily and the board just eases out. Be careful with the bearing capsule, you can break the plastic thread, ask me how i know! then you are talking about mega bucks. I do have a spare unit with a board and busted thread if you want to play!

Thanks for the offer - having a play with an alternative unit would be very useful. I'll PM you.

D'y reckon that there PCBs are able to be repaired or do they suffer permanent damage? Is there anything particularly complex about them? Mine woked for the first 2 weeks after launching, then works very intermittantly; mostly it says the wind is coming from either side of the bow even when it definately isn't!

It is amazing how often I use the local electronic display for wind direction, rather than the masthead "old fashioned" pointer, even although it has not worked for the last week. I still look at it all the time....!

Please forgive me asking the obvious - but is the masthead vane moving correctly? Mine was recording incorrectly but the vane, which just pulls off the top of the MHU, was sticking because the pivot had rusted inside the cap.
In addition, the Network wind sometimes freezes in one position, whilst the Network tack is OK. Power down/up unfreezes the display.
