Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I recently bought a B&G vulcan seven and having installed it started to look around for some charts to purchase. My issue is the problem I am having finding a supplier. The recommended way seems to be to download something called Gofree (why does the vulcan not come with this installed ?) And connect via the marina wifi ( none where I moor and my phone will not permit tethering ) all I really wanted to do was buy a micro Sd card and go.
What is my best course of action please ?

As I understand it, GoFree is an app which allows you to control the Vulcan from a tablet or smartphone.

For charting, you can buy Navionics, CMap or Navico chart cartridges in microSD format. There's a huge range available, with different prices according to how large an area the cartridge covers, what sort of detail is available, etc. PRS Comms are fairly keenly priced for chart cartridges - if you call them they might be able to advise you.

Based on my knowledge of the SIMRAD version.

You can buy charts via SD card from most suppliers or you can connect the Plotter to the marina Wi-Fi and purchase charts from the GoFree store.

The GoFree store is not on line at present due to "technical difficulties" which, based on another phrase used on their website " Please rest assured that no personal details or data has been affected and GoFree remains completely secure." looks like some sort of hacking attempt.

So your only current option is SD Card.

I bought a Vulcan 7 a few weeks ago and the GoFree 'technical difficluties' seem to be permanent.

Events have conspired to prevent me fitting it yet, but I did have a brief look for C-map charts and found a supplier, but you can't add the charts to the cart as there is 'insufficient stock'. I was going to give them a call when I had the plotter fitted.

Hi.
My Vulcan was purchased with the Free Chart offer. The site was down and my wife completed the cmap deal while I was sailing. I had an old Navionics chip that worked fine until the new cmap arrived. My preference is for the Navionics over the cmap .

While in Holy loch marina the other day the plotter completed a wifi update for software ok.

Thanks for all this guys. I have now ordered a micro SD card from PRS as suggested by PVB in an earlier post. I feel a little short changed in that I was expecting to do all my chart work via Bluetooth connection but it all seems to be out of action.

I had the same problems when trying to download C-maps from GoFree last year. I am in far flung places, so a trip to the local chandlery was not possible (they can write up a micro card for you - UK waters only I think). I e-mailed GoFree, C-Maps, B&G, and everyone else I could think of. Finally, the GoFree guy in Australia, prompted by C-Map in Italy, posted a micro SD card, with the required area, to me.
