For anyone who like me has been struggling to find how to do this, I have discovered an excellent YouTube guide.

I think the same bearing unit is fitted to several models of wands.

I have this job to do on our boat.

He did not mention that extreme care is needed to remove the metal bearing assembly off the plastic MH wand which he easily did by hand.

This is probably because he was doing the same job three years later!

I am expecting to need some gentle heat and penetrating oil to loosen the bearing assembly off the plastic after 20 years!
If you apply too much force the plastic is likely to snap at the threads as it will be embrittled by UV.

I don't fancy shelling out £ 1/2 K for a replacement MHU assembly. Thats even if you can source one. Good second hand ones seem as rare as rocking horse manure.
 
If you do break anything, depending on the model B&G newer ones share many common parts with older ones....

I got Tim Rowse to make an aluminium collar that fitted around the bearing cartridge and the wand round bit that holds the cartridge in position when I obtained a broken one
