Hi to all,

Once again I have been requested to post to the forum a question from a club member:

How is a B&G Hornet 4 Sailing Monitor Masthead Unit attached to the masthead?

The reason is to allow removal for maintenance and testing to rectify any faults which might be producing the non functioning status at present.

Thanking you all in advance for any help regarding this.

If it is just the stalk with senders unscrew the cover at the mast end and pull it off the 10 pin socket underneath. The masthead socket on mine is IIRC bolted to the masthead. Presume you have checked all connections in the junction box before it reaches the main unit.

Phoned Tinley and they appear to be very helpful, but their advise on the method of securing/removal at the masthead differs from the advice of the forum.
I have sent them an e-mail requesting advice, components and their price list, so once received I will post on the basis of helping others in a similar situation.
They did say that the build-up of oxides at the joint over a period of years does tend to result in a chemical weld which is a known issue. I guess it’s the old adage of “out of sight out of mind” and the fact that not easily accessible.

Mine is as described by SwedishLass, the fibreglass boom has a female screwed connector with the male on the masthead box. Exactly as Tinley describe, mine was badly corroded up and it was a big struggle to unscrew it.
