This is sort of boatie ... I am thinking of going from Glasgow to Oban on the Waverley next week but, having done it before, I don't fancy their painfully slow return coach trip to Glasgow much. So I am thinking of staying the night in Oban and coming down by train the next day. Anyone have an suggestions for a nice, cheap B&B or hotel in the middle of the town?

I stayed in the Coach House or Maybe Gate House a few years ago, it's along past the Northern Lights base just before the sailing club. Very nice, excellent food.

Only other place I know is Ayers Guest House, haven't stayed there but hear its good.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks, and keep 'em coming. I shall be doing some phoning tomorrow.

By the way ... Pete, your mailbox is full.

Many thanks, once again, for all the suggestions. Oban B&Bs are curiously resistant to answering emails, so I have booked us in to the Backpackers Plus Hostel, which gets good reviews on Tripadvisor. It also costs only £57 for a private room for two, and has two more beds free which we can, for a small extra charge, fill with friends who are thinking of coming along too.
