I'm thinking about buying a used Targa 48 from Peters which comes with a limited warranty. Peters' after sales service has been variously rubbished on this esteemed forum
Anyone out there who's actually had a good experience buying a boat from Peters or should I just expect the worst?

Buying a t48 is a good idea and buying from BA Peters is the only people i wd buy from. This does not mean that they are fab, but it does mean that they have best resources to fix things imho. All other UK and spanish dealers (eg Marine Sales) are sub-dealers of BA Peters: BA Petrs has exclusive of UK and spain (not france) since 1990s when fairline were a bit desperate.

Of course, you need to get a solid list of exactly wot is wrong, and all in writing. Keep up faxing them, a lot. If you feel that the waranty is drifting away faster than the probs getting fixed, use Frank Verrill (if in UK) number in back of MBY to do a written survey before warranty elapses. Or of course, praps even before buying. Frank may go mental at how badly the teak has been laid, even though it is okish really, but then all the other stuff gets fixed if you agree to let that go.

t48: volvo or cat ?

initialy the t48 was only offered with cat engines 2x 426hp. I had these, no probelms as it happens, tho some people did have probs. 98ish they added a volvo option, mustev gotta beter price, as volvos only 2x 430. Then later, bigger volvo option posibly 2x 480 (?) and others dropped. Obviously, most massive engne option is preferable.

Oodles of lickle things to look for on t48 which i can bore you senseless with, but none which would really stop the show, imho.
