It was still gently smouldering when I took the above pic in Frapa, Croatia

We wondered whether it was the grounding which helped start the fire or whether the skipper grounded the boat after the fire started

Either way, its a salutary reminder of what can happen to a boat when fire takes hold

Sad sight indeed.
Years ago, I made an offer on a Cape Horn steel trawler: 5 fully watertight compartments, integral tanks in the double bottom, self righting, designed to withstand even a major fire in the e/r and still be able to cruise with the get home engine, placed in a watertight and fireproof utility room.
All considered, I was actually happy that the offer wasn't accepted (for various reasons), but when I see pics like these, those kind of battleships always pop to my mind...

MBY due to run a review on the all new Azimut 46S, Striking Italian design coupled with Croatian "Flare". This jaw dropping new offering from the Viareggio yard is sure to gain a stong following.

In the words of one potential buyer, "She is simply on fire".
