We're looking into getting an axopar 28 to keep out in majorca, and we're currently looking at used models.

I understand that in 2018 axopar changed the Hull design in what appears to be a fairly significant redesign, apparently the 2018 onwards model is 13cm longer, 5cm wider and has 8cm more freeboard. As well as changing the design of the stringers.

I know there are a few axopar owners on here, can anyone comment in more detail on why the changes were made, and give any more info on them?

Thanks

I watched this yesterday.
I really like the Axopar's.

He mentioned it changes the RCD rating to off shore (B), earlier models were inshore (C).

The Change from mk1 to mk2 was significant and like most, was designed to overcome some specific points as well asps improve all...

full disclosure, we have a mk1 28 cabin...

the mk2 is indeed Beamer and longer with more freeboard. I was the first to admit when I saw the 28 mk1 I was slightly concerned about low freeboard and bow buoyancy but having put over an hundred hours on ours in all conditions and in a range of seas, it isnt a problem and we have never come close to stuffing, nothing more tha spray on the window blown in on the wind..

There were further enhancements inside in terms of finish and refinement and to The rubbing strake aft which has been a known cosmetic problem on mk1 boats.

some people have said they prefer the seakeeping if the mk1 over the mk2 boat as it’s narrower but I’m not convinced, if one had been available on budget when we bought I think I might have gone for a mk2 but make no mistake, the mk1 is a great boat that is exceptionally competent for what it is designed for.

if you have any specific questions just shout and I can share some of the very small issues we have had in the 12 months we have had ours, I love the boat and For us it’s perfect,

my guess Is availability may be an issue just now. long lead on an new build and second hand asking strong money.. is it the 28 only or perhaps the 37? T top or cabin?

the 28 in that video was berthed just the other side of the bridge from me, sold very quickly when put on the market last year.

Z1ppy.

Thanks zippy/all.

you say there were further enhancements inside in terms of finish and refinement, could you explain these in more detail? Also - it'd be good to hear what small issues you have had with yours.

We're looking for a 28 T top, single engine, with the aft cabin option. We're only looking at the 28, dont want or need the additional size of the 37.

There arent many 28's available used in mallorca/balearics/spain right now, but dont mind waiting for the right boat - especially as its not looking certain that we'll get out there this summer at all.

So - I think we've ruled out any boat older than 2018 mostly on account that the updated hull appeals more for the additional width and higher top sides, and I suspect it will be easier to sell a >2018 boat on when the time comes - although that does of course depend on many variables.

Hi Sorry for the delay. seems like you have moved on but for background...

The Mk2 had improvements in the dash layout, removing the ipad slot, wider range of upholstery inside, repositioning some of the battery switches and breaker switch.

Some of the early Mk 1 boats only ran 2 x batteries and believe all Mk 2 have 3 batteries now?

The raised pulput was done away with on the mk 2 and the ready rubbing strip and line around the transom was also changed a little. all minor changes but added with the hull shape made a significant difference, it does feel bigger and easier to walk around. (not that the Mk 1 was bad in any way)

the mk 2 seem to have the V8 Verado as opposed to the 6 cylinder ones although i am not sure it thats all Mk 2 boats or jsut the more recent ones.

i am sure there were more changes but also the changes bought in through the life of the Mk 1 and into the Mk 2 boats as well.

problems.... very few really, we have had a little water ingress into the roof moulding which is rather annoying but something i will sort our, (believe its coming in through the roof rails so will remove and reseal.

the rubbing strip was a problem on the early boats and needed to be re fixed but thats only on the very early Mk 1 boats

the Estec deck is simply AWFUL as a product it is not fit for sale and should go no where near a boat! i think we will remove outs this coming winder and put new synthetic teak down. (Estec have flatly refused to engage with me, answer calls or e mails with me asking for guidance on cleaning (not seeking redress). truly terrible company that you should run a mile from!

Anchor install from suppling dealer was poor. (electronic control box for the windlass directly under the anchor rode in the wet anchor locker) sorted by repositioning the dry side of the bulkhead but this is supplying dealer stuff. not sure n the Mk 2 boats, i think they changed but we only have weighted rode, not chain which is fine for lunch but not sure i would want to overnight on it.

aside from that... no other issues that spring to mind and even the above are pretty well on par with all boats...

if you need anything else just shout. if you are in Facebook there is an excellent group for owners with huge amount of information and with the Axopar founder taking an active interest.

Thanks zippy, great info.

The Anchor windlass is an odd one, we've been talking to the broker about a 2016 boat, but it doesn't have an electric windlass, and she says that an electric windlass was not an option on the 2016 boat, and if we want to retrofit one we would need to strengthen the deck area where it would be mounted. This seems bonkers to me, surely noone expects a 28 foot boat to manually operate the Anchor?

Will keep looking for a 28 t top in mallorca/balearics/spain.

Ive just joined the Facebook axopar owners group.

Could you elaborate on what is wrong with the estec decking?

Ok, just looked at my paperwork. ours was ordered November 2016 for 2017 delivery (2017 boat) and included electric anchor winch as option. I may have some photos somewhere of the install but if not i can get some when it stops raining.

the install was done at dealer rather than at factory but reasonably easy fix, just annoying that it wasn’t done right in the first place.

the windless is mounted on the bulkhead ( as opposed to the deck) lots were delivered without but I agree with you, it’s a no brainier...

the Esthec is impossible to keep clean even for me with Ocd about boat cleaning. Mould on the caulking and sealant that will not shift. very common and so far nothing has shifted it. I have asked them, sent pictures, called them and been told they will return my call but nothing... looking forward to seeing them at a boat show...
