I have an old procter mast which is gold anodized it is looking tired and i would like to spray it with white awlgrip does anyone know whether awlgrip will adhere to the anodizing or do i need a particular primer.
Will definately need a primer. Can't remember the exact primer which you spray on first.
If no one cames back with the name of it (perhaps from Aqua marine) I can look it up for you later.
The stuff I used certainly worked. The customer wanted a new silver boom sprayed black to match the mast. I used the primer and then sprayed it with International Perfection (I have an air fed mask) and it went on very well and stayed on.
You will need an etch primer, ask your paint supplier for the brand they recommend and use it or they will tell you that you used the wrong one if/when you have problem.
I'm in the same position as you at the moment, 25 yr old gold anodised spars that look a mess having become very patchy and faded almost to silver in places.
I'd be very interested to know what you decide to do and how you get on!
will do jerry but dont hold your breath i run a 62 footer in the caribbean and will not be back until september when i will take the mast down and start i hope !
