Having spent the last week in Brixham, I cannot believe how much better the boating looks like away from the solent.

Lovely calm Torbay, very empty with lovely interesting little coves to drop the anchor in. No signs of raggy/mobo hatred.

I wish my boat was here!

Brixham is the start;its gets better west thereafter.
In fairness to the Solent, it IS the best boating area to vast swathes of s/e England boaters. It cant touch the west costs though.

Torquay have a few annual berths available if you wish to make it more permanent, agree that west country from anywhere around Torbay is only a stones throw away, Dartmouth 30 mins, Salcombe 1hr, Plymouth 2hrs etc, with many a sheltered cove and anchorage between.

There's many we know that never leave the Bay and when they do it's only around to the next cove.
Good road and rail links make it very accessible for anyone along the M5 corridor.

Glad to here that you enjoyed it, maybe next time you will be lucky enough to see it in some decent weather !

Dont want to put you off but the weather can get bad here as well.
Especially easterlies.

Dont worry though - both Torquay and Brixham harbours are very well protected.

Come to the deep brown water of the Bristol channel, vastly cheaper berthing than the Solent boating lake. Only ten miles to foreign shores and miles of endless empty water.
(It turns blue again west of Minehead!)

hope its better than this next weekend, will be in the area for two weeks (booked a berth in Torquay for couple of nights, the rest of time will be spent in Brixham and Dartmouth)

don't understand why you didn't go by boat!

we were there last week on a quick trip - Poole/Weymouth/Torquay/Dartmouth/Salcombe/Plymouth/Poole but bailed out when the forecast in Plymouth was for 3 days of rain out of the next 4! Fowey and Falmouth beckoned........

It really wasn't great boating weather but the environment made up for it (to a degree)

Popping into Hope Cove for a crab salad seems so much more relaxed than Cowes or Yarmouth :)
